It’s been almost 2 years since we’ve seen Mike’s brother and his family.  The last time we were with them was actually the first time we’d seen our neice Avery.  She was just 1 month old!  Today Steve and Jodi and Avery will be hopping on a plane to come and visit through the weekend.  Avery is now 2 weeks short of her 2nd birthday, and we cannot wait to see her again!  Here’s a picture from our last visit.  I am so excited to show you guys our pictures from this weekend!  You’re going to love Avery!

Playing “secret garden” with my best friend was one of my favorite games as a kid.  It seems like any book we read or movie we watched we’d end up playing out.  Good thing they didn’t have Gladiator then!  Anyway, we’d pick these hidden away little places and then try and put together a retreat.  The key was to never let our little sisters know where our garden was.  The funny thing is that they would play secret garden too, and it was equally as important to be hidden. With stealth in mind, we would pick out plants that would hopefully grow in our locations.  Honestly, I don’t remember if we ended up planting anything, or just planning.  Either way, it was a good game.

I’ve never lost my love for quiet gardens.  The nature, the art, the fragrance.  Lovely.  This year we were able to set aside a little budget so I could start a patio garden.  Just like when I was a kid, I have great ideas of what I want it to look like, I just lack the finances to make it happen.   Oh well, I have a great imagination.  And you got to start somewhere, right!  By the time I’m 80, it is going to look amazing.

Oh, and I love this!  We just got a new path leading to our front door!  The scotch moss is to fill in the cracks between the slate.

Last year we brought Brutus into our lives.  He was just 4 lbs, and as fluffy as a teddy bear.  We have always been a large dog family, but I decided I wanted to have a dog that didn’t shed.  Most of the varieties that I liked were little, so we took the plunge and brought our lil’ guy home.  I can tell you right away, there is a HUGE difference between a small dog and a big dog.  And although a couple of the differences are hard to handle some days, Brutus has won my heart.  Take a look at him when he was just a pup…

This is his “all grown up” picture, even though he’s only 9 or 10 months old.  So sophisticated.

So yes.  Brutus has won a place on my favorites lists.  And the best part of all?  I don’t have any hair on my clothes as I write this!  Mission accomplished!!

I’m sure some of you are wondering why I haven’t posted a shoot for a week or two.  The answer is that most families have had their portraits done for Christmas, and all the Brides are waiting for good weather to get married.  I figured I’d take some of this down time to fill you in more on who I am.

So you need to know that I love television.  No, I’m not one of those girls that wastes my life in front of it, but I do like a good show.  Since this is the last season of Lost, we figured we should enjoy it with friends.  Jim and Kari have been joining Mike and I as we try and figure out what the heck is going on.   I mean, are we talking Purgatory?  Alternative Universes?   Who knows.  I mean truly, who knows?  I’m not even sure the writers know.  Yet we are unfettered!  We’re still having fun even if it’s a crazy story.

The best part about it is that you get to have snack food on Tuesday like it’s Friday night.  That’s what brings me to the purpose of our blog.  Cupcakes.  An Amber Paterson favorite.  And not just any cupcakes mind you, but Cupcake Royale.  Uh Huh.  That’s right.  That’s how we play at the Paterson house.  Well, maybe it’s more like at the Hammit-Caster house since Kari brought the goods.  Either way, you got to get yourself one of this lil’ babies.  These are Baby Cakes.  About 2 bites worth, but oh so good.

That’s right, it DOES  do a booty good… maybe too good…

Do you see Kari’s shirt?  “Legalize Frostitution”.  Oh man, that’s what I want for my birthday this year.  Frostitiution.  (Can I say that?!)

You may have noticed on my Facebook page earlier this week that I drove a complete circle around Washington this week.  Let me tell you, it’s not like driving a circle around Rhode Island.  I was in the car forever!!!  My fear was staying awake, so I decided to try two things.  One, listen to loud music-check.  Cold Play, Jimmy, OneRepublic, MC Hammer, Right Said Fred, they were all with me.  Oh, to be fair, I also listened to Matt Chandler for a few straight hours.  You need to check him out if you’ve never heard of him.  Two, engage my mind creatively.  Ok, now I know if my mom reads this she is going to die, but I decided to bring my Nikon Coolpix P6000.  He’s a little feller, but does a great job.  Anyway, what I decided to do was grab pictures of things I thought might be interesting as I was driving.  I  never took my eyes of the road (well, except when I was choosing shutter speed…yeah, I know mom.  I’m sorry) and grabbed some pics.  I thought for those of you that don’t live in Washington, it might be a fun way to see my state.

I did not list this as part of my “staying awake routine” because this is decaf.  We all know how much good that does.  I am kinda into these Red cups that Starbucks has right now.  I’m not a “heart” girl, but I think I heart these.

Ah Eastern Washington, if you didn’t house my sister, I would wonder what we would do with your brown desert. (do you like how you can see my Google Maps in the window?)

This is my FAVORITE from the trip.  Don’t recognize it?  It’s the Gorge at George.  We over saturated it, but man does it look cool.  It might show up as a canvas in my living room.

The flat desert guarded by mountains has always been strange to me.  I love the contrast as you drive through them into a wasteland (ok, it’s not wasted.  Like I said, my sis lives there).

As you drive up to Canada for the Olympics, stop by and see Bellingham.  It’s such an interesting town.  Here’s the harbor there.  (I did get out to take this picture.  I couldn’t get a good view from the road.  My car was still running though.  Does that count?)

I love this old mural!  Could you imagine someone really looking at you like the kid in this picture is?  I would run.  For reals.  I’d be out of there.

This is the bridge in Kennewick.  Kinda cool, eh?

So, that was my week.  If you’re wondering, the best coffee I had was at Woods, which is a Lynden/Bellingham coffee shop.  I don’t think they have any down south, but if you’re up there, try ’em out!   Happy weekending!

There are needs and there are wants.   I know what real needs are, but if I could live in a world where my favorite things were added to my “need” list, it would be fabulous!

This is extremely hard for me to say, as I was  a tomboy growing up.  I love Mac.  Mac as in the makeup company.  There.  It’s out.  Judge me world, I don’t care!  I’m in love!  And it’s wonderful.  I try walking past every time, but I ALWAYS have to stop and see if there’s anything new.  The eye shadows are bright and colorful, the lipstick smells of creamy vanilla, it’s like they were able to package cupcakes in a tube.

There you have it.  That is a little piece of me for you to know.  Drink it in, because you know I do!

(Scroll down to see pics from the day)

No matter how misleading the title, I must tell you I really like Peyton Manning.  I think he’s hilarious.  Ever see him on SNL?  Yeah, that sealed the deal for me. And the commercials he does?  hilarious.

But our guy’s already got one ring on his finger, and the Saints needed some lovin’.  I admire Drew Brees and his teammates for how they’ve supported and the community of New Orléans.  After all the pain the city has gone through, it’s pretty awesome for them to go from no Superbowl wins to being the kings.  So congrats Saints!

At half time me and the party’s kiddos went outside to mess around with the pig skin.   I know, crazy that I didn’t want to watch The Who, right?

This is the “Go Saints!’ face…

Shopping or football, who can decide?

Don’t knock him for grabbing the wrong ball for the day.  He looked good doing it.

“Two Forty two…HIKE!”

Aren’t these the coolest Nike shoes ever?  Why don’t they come in my size?

Congratulations again to the Saints, and great game Indy!
